Sasha Gentsis (Moscow, 1971), contemporary photography artist.

Sasha’s career began with landscape photography. With his landscapes, he has repeatedly participated in Moscow collective exhibitions and festivals of landscape photography, and has also held more than 20 personal exhibitions, presenting his works in the Gallery of Classic Photography, Gallery on Solyanka, in the Photo Center of the Union of Photojournalists, in the Izvestia Press Center, and at the Center for Contemporary Art M’Ars.

By 2011, Sasha collected a large archive of photographic works that allowed him create his series entitled “Photographic Duets”.

However, 2015 became a very special year for Sasha. This is due not only to the change in photography technique, but also to the change of photographic genre. The “Abandoned” style, or photography of abandoned and industrial objects, appeared in the author’s work together with a unique opportunity to shoot on the territory of the Moscow legendary Zil plant shortly before it’s demolition. The result of his work was the project “Socialist Surrealism”. An exhibition of 17 large-scale collectible photographs from this project was presented in Moscow at the Jewish Museum and Center for Tolerance and at the 5th Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art in Yekaterinburg with the support of Igronic, Gazprombank and General Invest. The exhibition received positive press reviews. A limited edition album was released for this project, copies of which are already in the collections of prominent people in art and business.

In the fall of 2020, Sasha presented his new collection of works and the author’s album “Guided heavens”. This project became a “bridge” connecting two important parts of his work: landscape and industrial art photography.
